When is Rakhi?

When is Rakhi?

Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is a unique occasion that is celebrated every year, in August, on Shravan Purnima day. It is a day when the special relationship between brothers and sisters is reaffirmed when the sister ties a thread or decorated band around her brother's wrist. This is accompanied by rituals, an exchange of gifts and the reaffirmation of a pledge by brothers, to protect their sisters at all times. In India festivals are celebrated in almost every month. And that's why it is called the country of festivals. One such special festival is Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan. Raksha Bandhan is one of the most popular festival in India.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival which strengthens the bond between brother and sister.

Rakhi is an Indian festival. But apart from India, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated around the world by the Indians living in different countries of the world with equal joy and fervor like India. This year Raksha Bandhan falls on August 9,2006. Rakhi is generally celebrated on the auspicious day of Shravan Purnima.

To the outside world, we all grow old. Not brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family dispute and secrets, family grieves and joys. We live outside the touch of time.
